The survey says!
Top 5 cleanest airlines in the world, according to Skytrax:
- ANA All Nippon Airways
- EVA Air
- Asiana Airlines
- Singapore Airlines
- JAL Japan Airlines

So then…
Which are the best airlines to fly to Japan?!
…according to cleanliness and if you want to rely on the opinions of fellow airplane passengers around the world!

The BEST airlines won’t necessarily be the cheapest flights to Japan.
But ALL of the top 5 airlines that made the list fly to Japan!
And all of these airlines also have flights from the US and from Australia.
And seeing as how all 5 of these airlines are Asia-based, you can find flights from a bunch of countries in Asia to Japan on these airlines too.
So have a look to see if there are flights from your airport, or if your flight to Japan can include one of these airlines if you won’t be flying direct.

The Japan-based airlines
ANA and JAL are the top Japan-based airlines on the list.
So if you’re headed for your first trip to Japan, why not start off your trip with a Japanese airline… right?!
You can also use these airlines for domestic flights in Japan too.
1. ANA All Nippon Airways

2. JAL Japan Airlines

More Asia-based airlines
The other 3 airlines are based in Taiwan (EVA Air), South Korea (Asiana Airlines), and Singapore (Singapore Airlines).
3. EVA Air

4. Asiana Airlines

5. Singapore Airlines

Cleanest US-based airlines that fly to Japan?!
There are US-based airlines that fly to Japan.
But if you’re looking for the cleanest airlines in the world according to your fellow passengers, you’re going to have to fly on an airline that’s not US-based!
No US-based airline made the list.
Not the 10 top, not the top 20, and not even in the top 30.
Search for flights on top airlines
So what if it seems really time-consuming to go to each individual website to see if you can fly to Japan with each of these airlines?!
Use a flight search engine!
For example…
- Go to a flight search website like kiwi.com to search for the cheapest flights
- For the departure, type your city or airport
- For the arrival, type Tokyo AND Osaka (this will cover the main international airports in Japan when you’re doing the Golden Route of Japan)
- And SEARCH
You don’t need to include dates since for now you’re just looking to see if you’ll be able to fly on one of these airlines.
Then once the flight results load…

Use the filter that allows you to select certain airlines.

Then DESELECT all airlines…

And then SELECT these airlines:
- All Nippon Airways (NH)
- Asiana Airlines (OZ)
- EVA Air (BR)
- Japan Airlines (NL)
- Singapore Airlines (SQ)

And then you’ll get results of ONLY the cleanest airlines in the world!

But…
What if your search turns up empty or some REALLY high prices?!
Since these airlines aren’t budget airlines, they generally won’t be the cheapest flights to Japan that you can find.
That said, if you do find that your search comes up with NO flights at all or some seemingly insane prices, you may still be able to fly to Japan on these airlines for a slightly more reasonable price. (The cost of a flight is all relative!)
Search partner airlines too
This will require a little bit more effort.
But if you know that getting to Japan will require a layover no matter what because your airport isn’t one of the major hubs…
You can possibly find a cheaper flight to that major hub airport, and then have the experience of flying on one of these best airlines.
For that, first try loading ALL search results (no filters), and then start looking through the results.
Instead of filtering it so that it will ONLY show certain airlines, start filtering OUT flights that don’t contain the best airlines.
So for example…
You see that the cheapest flights that are showing up are flights that include China Eastern airlines.

So go to the filter to select the option that you will only get results WITHOUT China Eastern…
And so on!
And then you can keep doing this to the top results until you see one of the best airlines among the top search results!
This does seem like a lot of work… but in the name of saving money… 😉
HAPPY FLYING TO JAPAN!
