How to get to Meguro River
Generally speaking, Google Maps can work out well when you’re trying to figure out the best way to get anywhere in Tokyo from your current location.
Look for “Meguro River Cherry Blossom Promenade”
There’s a spot on Google Maps that’s called the Meguro River cherry blossoms promenade.
This is the direction I headed, and I’d say it was a good spot to be guided to!
There’s also a Meguro River Park, but this is more of a plaza or a square, and it’s not a park like Ueno Park or Yoyogi Park where you’ll be able to see lots of cherry blossoms.
You can walk towards the park as you take a stroll along Meguro River, but just don’t expect a whole bunch of cherry blossom trees at the end!

But it’s not a bad starting point for your river walk.
Getting to Meguro River with a JR pass

If you’re traveling without a JR pass, depending on where you’re coming from and your timings, there are a couple of different train stations that might be suggested routes.
But if you’re traveling with a JR pass, there is the JR Meguro station and the JR Ebisu station.
I got off at Ebisu station, but looking at a map now, it does look like the Meguro station will get you to the river quicker which would make for a more scenic walk.
So if I had to do it again, I would probably choose to get off at Meguro.
Or if you want to start at the Meguro River Park, you can get off at Ebisu.
But either way, you can end up at the cherry blossom promenade with a river walk in Tokyo!
Here’s a bit of what you might see with a walk along Meguro River during cherry blossom season!

I was here a little bit earlier than “full bloom” of the cherry blossoms, so you can also keep that in mind as you look at the pictures!

Is a JR pass worth it?!
- Google maps can make it easy to figure out whether or not you should get a JR pass!
- In google maps, type in your departure and arrival city, and choose the transit icon. The route will come up, and so will the estimated cost at the bottom!
- Here is an example of a train route with cost on google maps.
- So do that for all of your long distance routes to figure out how much it might cost.
- Next, go here to see how much a JR pass costs.
- And compare!
- Not all forms of public transportation are JR, but long distance shinkansen bullet trains are, and that's where the most cost savings will come.
