HI there!
Ohara is a village on the outskirts of Kyoto, and it’s here that you can make a visit to the Jakko-in Temple.
It may not be worth it to go out to Ohara JUST for the Jakko-in Temple, but a trip out to the rural Ohara village can be worth it if you’re looking for an escape from Kyoto and the city crowds.
One of the best parts of Ohara might be the walk from Sanzen-in to Jakko-in!
Ohara can make for a good half day trip from Kyoto when you’re looking for an activity that could be considered somewhat of a city escape.
You can also extend a trip to Ohara into an all day trip by taking your time walking through the temple grounds and small streets of Ohara.

Ohara onsen
Ohara can make for an easy day trip from Kyoto as it’s easy to access by public transportation.
But if you’re looking for a bit of a unique experience when you’re in Japan, you may also consider staying a night in the quiet village of Ohara.
The accommodation options are limited, but one of your options is to stay at a Japanese-style ryokan or minshuku, which can give you feeling like it’s a traditional Japanese stay.
Staying at the Ohara onsen isn’t as popular as the Kumara onsen, but there’s still a good chance that you will love the experience.
Put in “Ohara minshuku” below (partner website) along with your travel dates (or any future date) to see more about this place!
And now…
Here are a few photos from Jakko-in Temple!
