Hi there!
So you’ll be arriving to Matsumoto by train!

And then you’ll immediately be leaving Matsumoto by bus for another destination!

So…
Is it easy to get from the Matsumoto train station to the Matsumoto bus terminal?!
In short, yes, it’s pretty simple!
It’ll take a few minutes to walk.
The train station has 2 main exits, and you’ll just want to make sure to take the correct exit – the Matsumoto Castle exit.
And, if you have a couple of hours to spare, then there are a few things you can do too!
If you don’t mind walking a bit, then you can get to the Matsumoto Castle by walking from the train station (and bus station), as well as walk on a few smaller streets, including passing by some food stalls for some Japanese snacks!

Or, if you want to just rest up a bit, then the bus station is in can be a good place to do so too, as the building that the bus terminal is in has some restaurants and cafes, as well as a grocery store in the basement.

Now…
Here’s a bit of what it’ll look like to make your transfer from the train station to the bus station!
Arrive at the Matsumoto train station!

Make your way towards the exit

So there are 2 main exits at the Matsumoto train station:
- The alps exit
- The castle exit

You want to go for the Matsumoto Castle exit.
So if you’re going in the direction and see mountains out the window (the Japanese Alps!), you’re going in the wrong direction!

So it’s the exit on the side away from the mountains.
Stop at the tourist information center

If you have time for exploring Matsumoto a little bit before your bus leaves, then be sure to stop by the tourist information center that’s at the train station.
You can pick up a walking map so you can decide where you want to go!

There are coin lockers at both the train station and the bus station to store your luggage so you can walk around Matsumoto hands-free.

Then…
Just continue to follow the signs!

There will be signs inside the train station, as well as at the exit.

And then once you’re outside, you can find more signs to the bus terminal too.

Google Maps will also be able to get you to the bus station, but in case you are directionally challenged π with problems figuring out which direction to go to get you started on the directions, then the signs are there for you!
And then…
Arrive at the Matsumoto bus terminal!

You’ll walk inside the building, and you’ll see the bus ticket counter.

You can buy your bus ticket at the ticket counter, and you can also ask about where to go to catch your bus.
And there’s also a display board with the information about the upcoming bus timings and platform number for your destination.

And if you have extra time to spare, there’s a waiting area.

There are also cafes, restaurants, and even a grocery store in the same building as the bus terminal!

And once it’s time to get on your bus, you can head over to the departure platform!

HAPPY WALKING TO THE MATSUMOTO BUS TERMINAL FROM THE TRAIN STATION!
