I stayed at K’s House Mt Fuji hostel in Kawaguchiko PICS!

K’s House is one of the top backpacker chain hostels in Japan, and there are several K’s House hostels across Japan.

And one of the most important things to know about staying at a K’s House hostel in Kawaguchiko is that there are 2 K’s House hostels in Kawaguchiko!

So, you’ll want to make sure that you go to the one you make the booking at, and not to just blindly go to the first “K’s House” that you see on Google Maps!

Mt Fuji climb as part of a trip to Kawaguchiko

• Bus from 5th station to Kawaguchiko

• Tourist train from Kawaguchiko

So these are the 2 K’s House hostels in Kawaguchiko:

These hostels are about a 20-30 minute walk from one another.

I stayed at K’s House Mt Fuji, so the pictures below are from the Mt Fuji hostel.

Both of these hostels also have private rooms, including Japanese-style rooms. Take a look at the pictures for the Mt Fuji location and the Fuji view location.

Why stay in Kawaguchiko?

Well there are 2 main reasons!

• Mt Fuji views
• Base for Mt Fuji climb

Lake Kawaguchiko is one of the lakes that are a part of the Fuji Five Lakes region.

A trip out here can be the perfect spot to see some of the best views of Mt Fuji – whether that’s by hiking to see Mount Fuji, ropeway to see it, boat to see it… or even just by walking down the street!

If your trip to Japan is during the summer, Kawaguchiko can also make for a perfect base for a Mt Fuji climb.

I went to the starting point of the Mt Fuji trail directly from Tokyo, and then after the hike I took a direct bus to Kawaguchiko for a hostel stay at K’s House.

If you opt to do the Mt Fuji bullet climb (although that’s not recommended), you could consider doing it from Kawaguchiko instead of from Tokyo. You’ll be closer to Mt Fuji.

And when splitting the Mt Fuji climb into 2 days, Kawaguchiko can also make for a good place to stay the night before you hike up Mt Fuji, or the night you finish up Mt Fuji too.

Kawaguchiko station to K’s House Mt Fuji

The Kawaguchiko bus station and train station are in the same spot, and it’s about a 20 minute walk to the hostel.

I arrived to Kawaguchiko from Mt Fuji 5th station by bus in the evening past sunset so it was dark outside.

This really didn’t feel like the safest walk because of the lack of sidewalks in some places, so if you are also arriving when it’s dark out, be sure to have a flashlight out – both for you and the cars on the road.

This is also what can make having reflective clothing or something that has reflective features to be worthwhile so that oncoming traffic can see you better.

There’s a convenience store along the way, so I picked up some dinner and ate it when I got to the hostel!

K’s House Mt Fuji to Lake Kawaguchiko

To reach the closest point of the lake, it’s about a 5 minute walk.

To get to the area where you can find the starting point to the Mt Tenjo hike, the Mt Kachi Kachi ropeway, and the lake boat ride is about a 15 minute walk from the hostel. (aka things to do for Mt Fuji views!)
